SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Alice Chen has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from March 30 to April 5. The selection is the final one of the 2016 campaign and was made by the league office.

Chen fired a 6-under-par 210 to tie for second out of 79 competitors at the Clemson Invitational, which featured a pair of top-50 players and nine teams ranked in the top 50. After opening with a 1-over 73 on Friday, Chen shot a 3-under 69 Saturday before wrapping up with a 4-under 68 on Sunday. The sophomore from Princeton, N.J., helped the Paladins to a second-place finish in the loaded field.

Chen’s second-place finish was a season best and matched her career best. The 2015 SoCon Freshman of the Year, Chen was runner-up at last year’s SoCon tournament.

Furman and the other eight SoCon women’s golf teams return to action this weekend at the Southern Conference Women’s Golf Championship at Savannah Quarters in Pooler, Ga. Round one tees off Sunday at 8 a.m.

Also nominated: Hee Ying Loy (ETSU), Mary Augusta Janiga (Mercer), Haley Harrington (Samford), Emily McLennan (Chattanooga) and Maddi Caldwell (Western Carolina).
