SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU freshman Hee Ying Loy has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from March 9-15. The selection is made by the league office.

Loy tied for second at the 3M Augusta Invitational on the week, shooting a 4-under-par 212 with three rounds of par or better to best five of the six top-100 golfers in the 89-player field. Loy opened with a 1-under 71 to sit in a tie for fourth after Friday’s first round. The Baru, Kulaijaya, Malaysia, native followed that up with an even-par 72 and a 3-under 69 Saturday to move up two spots in the standings, recording birdies on a school-record six straight holes at one point in her third round.

Loy’s efforts helped the Bucs to a fourth-place team finish in the 14-team field that featured five top-50 ranked programs.

The ETSU freshman dropped her season stroke average to 73.52, which leads the team.

Freshmen have had a solid spring season around the SoCon, as three of the four weekly awards have gone to rookies so far. The lone exception was Chattanooga senior Emily McLennan on March 2. Mercer freshman Payton Schanen was honored on Feb. 24 and Furman freshman Haylee Harford took last week’s award.

Loy and her Buccaneer teammates return to action March 28-29 at the Henssler Financial Intercollegiate in Kennesaw, Ga.

Also nominated: Eraina Manor (The Citadel) and Maegan Higgins (Wofford).
