SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer’s Kahlia Lawrence has been tabbed Innovative Office Solutions Southern Conference Player of the Week for games played Feb. 23-28, the league office announced Monday. The sophomore guard averaged 29.5 points per game across two contests as the Bears clinched their first share of a SoCon regular-season title.

On Thursday, Lawrence went 10-for-16 (62.5 percent) and scored 25 points as Mercer cruised past Wofford in Macon, Ga., 80-32. The Columbus, Ga., native also ripped down four rebounds and dished out three assists against the Terriers. Lawrence closed out the season in style, pouring in 34 points on a career-best 16 made field goals in a conference-title clinching win over Furman. The game represented a milestone for Lawrence, who surpassed 1,000 career points with her 34-point performance.  She added five rebounds, two blocks and a steal in 39 minutes of action versus the Paladins.

Lawrence averaged a league-best 21.0 points per game in conference play this season.

Top-seeded Mercer will face No. 8 seed UNCG in the opening game of the 2016 SoCon Women’s Basketball Championship on Thursday. Tip is slated for 11:30 a.m. All women’s tournament games will be broadcast on ESPN3.
