SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga’s Queen Alford has been named Innovative Office Solutions Southern Conference Player of the Week for games played Feb. 16-22, the league office announced Tuesday. A redshirt junior, Alford averaged 21.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game as the Mocs retook first place in the league standings with wins over Samford and Mercer this past week.
Alford just missed a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds in UTC’s decisive 53-30 home defeat of Samford on Wednesday, shooting 6-of-13 from the field and knocking down two 3-pointers against the Bulldogs. The Decatur, Ga., product followed up that performance with a 24-point effort in a 67-45 victory over then-first-place Mercer on Saturday. Alford added six rebounds and was 9-of-14 from the field in the contest, including 4-for-5 from long range. She went 5-for-5 from the floor during a 20-0 Mocs run in the first half.
Alford leads UTC in scoring during SoCon action with 15.3 points per game and is second on the team with 5.3 rebounds per game in league contests. She now has 1,014 career points, including the two seasons she played at Jacksonville before transferring to the Mocs.
