SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga’s Jasmine Joyner has been named the Innovative Office Solutions Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played Feb. 9-15, the league office announced Tuesday. The junior forward averaged 17.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 5.0 blocks per game in back-to-back road wins on the way to her third consecutive player of the week honor.
In a convincing 74-53 win over UNCG on Feb. 11, Joyner notched her seventh double-double of the season with 21 points, 13 rebounds, five blocks and two steals in 34 minutes of action. She was 9-of-14 (64.2 percent) from the field against the Spartans. On Feb. 13, Joyner tallied 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds in a 65-51 victory at Western Carolina. The Southaven, Miss., product chipped in five more blocks in the contest and added two assists and two steals.
Joyner leads the nation in total blocked shots (106) and blocked shots per game (4.24). She ranks second all-time in the SoCon with 294 career rejections.
The Mocs (18-7, 9-2 SoCon), who moved into second place in the league standings with their win at WCU, will be back in action on Wednesday when they host third-place Samford (16-9, 8-2 SoCon) for a key conference game. Tip is slated for 6:30 p.m. (EST) and a video stream will be available via the SoCon Digital Network.
