SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford guard Chloe Wanink has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played Dec. 13-19, the conference announced Tuesday.
Wanink, a sophomore from Cameron, Wis., averaged 23.5 points and 7.5 rebounds while shooting 18-for-33 (.545) from the field, including 8-for-14 (.571) from behind the arc in the Terriers’ pair of wins over UNC Wilmington and Charleston Southern this past week. In Wofford’s 71-67 win at UNC Wilmington on Saturday, Wanink scored a career-high 26 points, all of which came in the first three quarters of regulation, and tied her career high with 10 rebounds, giving Wanink her second double-double of the season. The sophomore guard then led a Wofford comeback Monday night after the Terriers trailed by 11 points late in the first quarter at the Buc Dome in Charleston, S.C. Wanink finished the game with 21 points, shooting 8-for-13 (.381) from the field, including 4-for-8 (.500) from behind the arc and added five rebounds as the Terriers went on to win 59-45 over the Bucs.
Wanink currently ranks seventh in the SoCon in scoring (14.0 ppg), fifth in field goal percentage (.457) and second in 3-point field goal percentage (.512).
Wofford (7-4) returns to action on Friday, Dec. 30 for a 3 p.m. contest against North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla.
Other top performers in the Southern Conference included Carley Lytton (ETSU), Kahlia Lawrence (Mercer) and Hannah Nichols (Samford).
