SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU guard Tianna Tarter has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played Dec. 6-12, the conference announced Tuesday.
Tarter garners her third consecutive SoCon Player of the Week honor after averaging 28.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, while shooting 33-for-66 (.500) from the field last week against Campbell, Vanderbilt and Tennessee Tech. In the Bucs’ 56-55 win at Campbell on Tuesday, Tarter banked-in a game-winning layup with two seconds remaining in regulation to give ETSU a thrilling victory over the Fighting Camels. Two days later, the Johnson City, Tenn., native grasped a career-high 35 points while shooting 15-for-28 (.536) from the field in addition to six steals in a 80-72 loss against intrastate foe Vanderbilt. Tarter’s 35 points against the Commodores is the most by a SoCon player this season. The 5’6” junior guard notched her second consecutive 30-point performance in the Bucs’ 82-76 win at Tennessee Tech on Sunday as she finished with 30 points on 10-of-18 (.556) field goal attempts and 10 rebounds to claim her second double-double of the season.
Tarter currently leads the league in points per game (21.4) minutes played per game (35.5) and ranks second in steals per game (2.6).
ETSU (6-5) returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 17 for a 2 p.m. contest against Elon in Johnson City, Tenn.
Other top performers in the Southern Conference included KeKe Calloway (Mercer), Hannah Nichols (Samford) and Chloe Wanink (Wofford).
