Mercer's Lawrence Named Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer’s Kahlia Lawrence has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played Nov. 15-21, the conference announced Tuesday.

Lawrence led the Bears in scoring in a pair of wins over Campbell (76-60) and Florida Atlantic (74-57) last week, recording back-to-back season highs in both contests. Against Campbell on Wednesday, she scored 29 points after shooting 10-of-21 from the field and was just one rebound shy of a double-double. The Columbus Ga., native also sunk nine of her 10 attempts from the charity stripe and notched three steals to seal the Bears’ second victory of the season. Against FAU on Friday, Lawrence topped Wednesday’s performance with 36 points, a season-high among all SoCon players. The junior guard shot 15-for-29 from the field and, once again, recorded three steals to help Mercer rout the Owls, 74-57.

Mercer (3-1) will take on Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, Ill., tonight with tipoff scheduled for 8 p.m. (ET).

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included Tianna Tarter (ETSU), Nadine Soliman (UNCG), Kassidy Blevins (Samford), Jasmine Joyner (Chattanooga), Tess Harris (Western Carolina) and Chloe Wanink (Wofford).
