SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU forward Destiny Mitchell has been named the SoCon Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Mercer guard Kahlia Lawrence has been named the CRONS Freshman of the Week for games of Feb. 14-16, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Mitchell averaged 11.0 points per game and 16.0 rebounds per game in two wins last week, as ETSU improved to 10-1 in conference play. The redshirt senior forward made 9-of-18 field goal attempts (50.0 percent) and all four free throw attempts in the two contests.
Mitchell started the week with 13 rebounds and two points against Western Carolina on Saturday. She followed with an impressive performance against UNCG, racking up 20 points on 9-of-13 shooting and 19 rebounds in 29 minutes.
The native of Bluffton, Ga. leads the SoCon in rebounding at 9.5 per game overall. She claims the weekly honor for the second time this season.
Lawrence put together a strong week, averaging 25.0 points per game and 5.0 rebounds per game in a pair of wins for Mercer. The rookie guard was 17-of-32 (53.1 percent) from the field and 16-of-17 from the free throw line while adding four assists and seven steals
Lawrence was consistent in the two games, scoring career highs of 24 points against Furman on Saturday and 26 points against Wofford on Monday night. She added five rebounds in each contest with at least three steals in both.
The native of Columbus, Ga. leads all SoCon freshmen in scoring this season at 13.3 points per game. She takes the weekly honor for the third time in five weeks.
