SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer’s Sydni Means earned Southern Conference women’s basketball player of the week honors on Wednesday for all games played Dec. 1-7. The sophomore guard had back-to-back 15-point outings for the Bears while shooting 57.9 percent from the field. She added seven assists and seven steals across the two games.

Means began the week on Dec. 2 with a career-high 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting in a 57-44 road loss to SEC foe Georgia, tacking on four assists, two rebounds and two steals. She followed up with 15 points, five steals, three assists and two rebounds in a 72-61 win at Kennesaw State on Saturday. Nine of her 15 points against the Owls came in the fourth quarter, helping the Bears earn their fifth win of the season.

Means, a native of Stone Mountain, Ga., is currently tied for first in the SoCon in steals (20) and steals per game (2.50). She checks in second in the league in assist-turnover ratio (2.28) and assists per game (5.1).

The Bears will be back in action when they host Faulkner on Sunday at 2 p.m.
