SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford’s Krista Stricklin has been named Southern Conference women’s basketball player of the week for games played Dec. 8-14, the league office announced Tuesday. The senior guard averaged 13.0 points and 6.5 rebounds in a pair of losses to Indiana and Georgia Tech this past week.

The Hayden, Ala., native notched a double-double at Indiana on Friday in the Bulldogs’ 65-56 overtime loss, tallying 10 points and 10 rebounds in 36 minutes of action. On Sunday, Stricklin scored 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting in a 66-55 road loss to Georgia Tech. She was 3-of-4 from 3-point range and added three rebounds, an assist and a steal against the Yellow Jackets.

Stricklin is one of nine SoCon players to have recorded at least one double-double this season. She is also shooting 37.8 percent on 3-point field goals, which ranks seventh in the league.

The Bulldogs will be back in action when they travel to Alabama State on Thursday for another nonconference road contest. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.

Other nominees: Malloree Schurr (ETSU), KeKe Calloway (Mercer) and Jordan Frazier (Wofford).
