UNCG?s Mason earns Player of the Week honors

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG’s Lucy Mason garnered Southern Conference women’s basketball player of the week honors for the second consecutive week on Tuesday for all games held Nov. 24-30. The senior guard averaged 26.0 points per game across two contests for the Spartans.

Mason began the week with 28 points on 9-of-19 shooting in a narrow loss at Gardner-Webb on Nov. 24. The Stone Mountain, Ga., native shot 3-of-6 from 3-point land and was 7-for-8 from the free-throw line against the Bulldogs. On Saturday, she posted 24 points, five rebounds and four steals in an 81-60 home win over Longwood, with 11 of her points coming on free throws.

Mason has scored 20 or more points and has claimed the game high in points in all six of UNCG’s contests this season. She currently ranks third in the nation with 26.7 points per game and leads the conference in steals (16) and steals per game (2.7). Mason is also fourth in school history with 1,407 career points.

This is the first time a member of the UNCG women’s basketball team has earned back-to-back weekly SoCon honors.

The Spartans will be back in action on Tuesday at 7 p.m. when they travel to USC Upstate.
