SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer guard Precious Bridges has been named the SoCon Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while ETSU guard Tianna Tarter has been named the CRONS Freshman of the Week for games of Jan. 6-12, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Bridges averaged 18.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game in three games over the past week. The senior tallied 17 points, eight rebounds and five assists in the Bears’ final non-conference game of the season against Kennesaw State last Tuesday. She then contributed 18 points on 8-of-14 shooting in Mercer’s first SoCon game, a 68-51 win over Western Carolina. She concluded the stretch with a game-high 20 points with seven assists and four rebounds against UNCG on Monday.
The native of West Palm Beach, Fla. leads the conference in scoring at 21.2 points per game while also dishing out 3.4 assists per game, good for fourth best in the SoCon. She claims the weekly honor for the second time in as many weeks and the third time this season.
Tarter averaged a stellar 19.5 points per game in two contests last week with 4.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game as well. The rookie guard dropped 21 points on 10-of-17 shooting at Furman in ETSU’s conference opener on Saturday. She followed with 18 points, six steals and five rebounds in the Bucs’ win at Wofford in front of a record crowd on Monday.
Tarter leads all SoCon freshmen in scoring at 13.5 points per game, while ranking second among all SoCon players in assists at 3.8 per game. The native of Johnson City, Tenn. receives the weekly award for the second straight week and third time this season.
