Bio

In the nine decades of Southern Conference football, no head coach has won more games than Jerry Moore. By the time he left Appalachian State following the 2012 season, his teams had amassed 215 victories over 24 seasons.

Coming to App State in 1989, the Texas native turned the Mountaineers into consistent winners. His teams won 10 or more games nine times and earned 10 SoCon championships. During one six-year stretch, Moore’s teams won 41 out of 45 league games.

In 2005, the Mountaineers won the Division I national championship with a 21-16 come-from-behind victory over Northern Iowa. They repeated that success in 2006 and 2007, becoming the first FCS program to win three consecutive national championships.

On September 1, 2007, Moore led the Mountaineers to a 34-32 victory at Michigan, a game Sports Illustrated headlined on its subsequent cover -- ALLTIME UPSET. It remains one of the greatest upsets in college football history and cemented Jerry Moore’s place among the coaching legends of the Southern Conference.
