Bio
One of the first Southern Conference alumni to play in the WNBA, Rushia Brown has a constant presence throughout the basketball record books for Furman University and the Southern Conference.
A native of Summerville, South Carolina, Brown made an immediate impact upon joining the Furman program in 1989, earning the SoCon’s Freshman of the Year award and leading the conference in field goal percentage. She would go on to lead the conference in different seasons in scoring, rebounding, steals and blocked shots.
A four-time all-conference selection, Brown finished her career among the SoCon’s top ten in virtually every statistical category you’ll find in a box score. She wound up with 2,169 points and 1,023 rebounds. She is Furman’s all-time leading scorer and ranks third in SoCon history behind fellow Hall-of-Famers Valorie Whiteside and Regina Kirk.
Brown played professionally in Europe before spending seven seasons in the WNBA with the Cleveland Rockers and Charlotte Sting. In 1998, Furman hoisted her No. 34 jersey to the rafters of Timmins Arena. One year later, she was inducted into the Paladins’ Hall of Fame.
