SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga’s Taylor Hall has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Elon’s Jennifer Rhodes was selected as the CRONS Freshman of the Week for the week of Feb. 25, the league office announced Tuesday.
Hall played 44 minutes in Chattanooga’s 74-67, double-overtime win over Samford on Monday to earn Player of the Week honors for the third time this season. The senior forward from New Tazwell, Tenn., scored 20 points and pulled in 11 rebounds for her 12th double-double of the year. Hall also grabbed four steals and passed out three assists in the Mocs’ win. It was her second straight 20-point game and her fifth of the season.
Rhodes averaged 13.5 points and 8.0 rebounds over the weekend and earn CRONS Freshman of the Week honors for the third time this season. Rhodes scored 10 points in an 82-59 win over Wofford on Friday, hitting 5-of-9 shots from the field and pulling down eight rebounds. She followed that with a team-high 17 points and eight rebounds against Furman on Monday. Rhodes finished the week shooting 57.1 percent from the field and blocked five shots.
Also nominated for Player of the Week were Appalachian State’s Maryah Sydnor, Davidson’s Laura Murray, Elon’s Kelsey Harris, Furman’s Holli Wilkins, Georgia Southern’s MiMi DuBose, Samford’s Christy Robinson, Wofford's Ashton Fleming and Western Carolina’s Justin Taylor.
Also nominated for CRONS Freshman of the Week were Furman's Allison Beasley, Georgia Southern’s Angel McGowan, Chattanooga’s Chelsea Shumpert and Samford’s Hannah Nichols.
