Women's Basketball Players of the Week Announced

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman forward Brittany Hodges has been named the SoCon Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while ETSU guard Tianna Tarter has been named the CRONS Freshman of the Week for games of Dec. 9-15, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Hodges put together a stellar week, averaging 26.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game with seven blocks in two wins for the Paladins. The senior forward dropped 30 points on 12-of-18 shooting with 13 rebounds against UNC Asheville on Wednesday night. Hodges’s 30 points is the third highest total in the SoCon this season and was the second 30-point performance of her career. She followed that performance with 22 points on 10-of-12 shooting with seven rebounds and three blocks against Southern Wesleyan on Saturday, all in just 19 minutes. Hodges is currently the only SoCon player averaging a double-double, scoring 14.6 points per game and grabbing 10.1 rebounds per game. The native of Powder Springs, Ga. claims the weekly honor for the second time this season.

Tarter averaged 12.0 points, 6.5 assists and 5.0 rebound per game in two wins for ETSU over the past week. The rookie guard recorded seven points, six rebounds and six assists in the Bucs’ 64-49 win over Eastern Kentucky on Saturday. She then racked up 17 points with seven assists, four rebounds and three steals against Morehead State on Monday. Tarter currently ranks second in the league in assists per game at 4.1 and 14th in points per game at 11.1. The native of Johnson City, Tenn. takes the weekly honor for the first time in her career.
