SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Davidson’s Dakota Dukes has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Furman’s Whitney Bunn was selected as the CRONS Freshman of the Week for the week of Jan. 14, the league office announced Tuesday.
Dukes was named Player of the Week after leading Davidson to a pair of wins last week. The sophomore scored 16 points on 6-of-7 shooting and hauled in 10 rebounds to lead the Wildcats in a win over Elon on Saturday. Dukes followed with her second straight double-double in a 24-point, 10-rebound performance in Davidson’s win over UNCG, hitting 9-of-12 shots and hitting all six of her free-throw attempts. She finished the week averaging 20 points and 10 rebounds and shooting 78.9 percent from the field. Her two double-doubles give her six on the season, which is the second-most in the SoCon.
Bunn earns her second CRONS Freshman of the Week award of the season after scoring a career-high 20 points in Furman’s victory over Wofford on Saturday. She connected on 8-of-12 attempts from the field and knocked down both of her 3-point tries in the win, also dishing out a game-high five assists and recording three blocks. Bunn’s performance helped the Paladins earn their ninth win in their last 12 games.
