SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Elon’s Kelsey Evans has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games through March 5, the league office announced today, her second honor of the season.

Kelsey Evans led Elon last week with 21.5 points per game. The senior shot 74 percent from the field after connecting on 20-of-27 shots. Evans scored a career-high 31 points in a victory at Georgia Southern with another career high of 14 field goals (14-of-17). It marked an individual season high for the Phoenix and was the most points by an Elon player since March 17, 2011. In Elon’s win over Davidson, she went 6-of-10 from the field and scored 12 points. The Raleigh, N.C., native also shot 75 percent from the charity stripe (3-of-4), posted 10 rebounds and recorded five blocks (2.5/game).                                 

Other top performers last week included Appalachian State’s Anna Freeman, College of Charleston’s Afreyea Tolbert, Davidson’s Sophia Aleksandravicius, Georgia Southern’s Anna Claire Knight, Samford’s Taylor Reece, Chattanooga’s Ashlen Dewart and Wofford’s Morgan Wrightson.
