Women's Basketball Weekly Awards Announced

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Brittany Hodges has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Elon’s Jennifer Rhodes was selected as the CRONS Freshman of the Week for the week of Dec. 31, the league office announced Tuesday.

Hodges averaged a double-double to earn Player of the Week honors, posting 14.5 points and 11 rebounds per game in a pair of contests last week. She went 5-of-8 from the field on her way to finish with 12 points and hauled in 10 boards in Furman’s loss to USC Upstate. The junior forward led the Paladins to a win over Charlotte on Sunday, scoring 17 points, grabbing 12 rebounds and blocking three shots in 33 minutes of action. Hodges blocked the potential game-tying shot with two seconds left in the game to preserve the Paladin victory.

Rhodes earns her second CRONS Freshman of the Week award for her performance in three games for Elon. Rhodes shot 78 percent in Elon’s win over Campbell, finishing with 14 points and four rebounds in 20 minutes of action, and added seven points and three steals in the Phoenix win over Mount Olive. The freshman forward also scored 10 points and hauled in seven rebounds in a loss to West Virginia. Rhodes finished the week shooting 63.6 percent and averaging 10.3 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.
