SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Davidson guard Laura Murray has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Elon’s Lenaira Rufin  was selected as the CRONS Freshman of the Week for the week of Dec. 10, the league office announced Tuesday.

Murray notches her second consecutive Player of the Week honor after averaging 21.3 points and 6.3 rebounds in three games last week. Murray dropped in 25 points in an 88-74 win over Wofford on Saturday, also dishing out six assists in the Wildcat win. She recorded her first career double-double on Monday against Furman, posting 24 points and hauling in 11 rebounds to lead the Wildcats to a 73-66 win. The senior guard also scored 15 points and four steals in Davidson’s 66-35 loss to Rutgers on Wednesday. Murray finished the week shooting .471 from 3-point range on 8-of-17 shooting and sits just 25 points away from moving into second place on Davidson’s all-time scoring list.

Ruffin becomes the third different Elon freshman to win CRONS Freshman of the Week honors this season after scoring a career-high 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting and notching three rebounds and three steals in Elon’s 91-51 loss to NC State on Sunday.  She also added two assists and finished without a turnover in 28 minutes of action.

Also nominated for Player of the Week were Georgia Southern’s Anna Claire Knight, Samford’s Christy Robinson and Wofford’s Jordan Frazier.

Also nominated for CRONS Freshman of the Week was Samford’s Ellen Riggins.
