SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga forward Taylor Hall has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Samford’s Ellen Riggins was selected as the CRONS Freshman of the Week for the week of Nov. 12, the league office announced Tuesday.
Hall earns Player of the Week honors following a 24-point performance in Chattanooga’s 82-70 win over Alabama on Friday. The senior from New Tazwell, Tenn., also posted four assists, two rebounds and two steals in 37 minutes of action as the Lady Mocs knocked off an SEC opponent in their opening game for the second consecutive season. She finished the night shooting 47.3 percent from the field, connecting on nine of her 19 shot attempts, and going a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line.
Riggins was chosen as the CRONS Freshman of the Week after leading Samford to a 62-60 win over Memphis in her first collegiate game. The Murfreesboro, Tenn., native tallied 16 points and six rebounds to pace the Bulldogs, knocking down five of her 13 shots on the night.
Also nominated for Player of the Week were Appalachian State’s Maryah Sydnor, Davidson’s Hannah Early, Elon’s Sam Coffer, Georgia Southern’s MiMi DuBose, Samford’s Ellen Riggins and Wofford’s Erin Frost.
Also nominated for CRONS Freshman of the Week were Appalachian State’s Bria Carter, Elon’s Lauren Brown, Georgia Southern’s Angel McGowan and Western Carolina’s Brianne Mack.
