SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Davidson’s Sophia
Aleksandravicius has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Basketball
Player of the Week for games through January 7, the league office announced
today.
Aleksandravicius,
a senior forward, led Davidson to a 2-0 week with wins over Appalachian State
and College of Charleston by averaging a double-double for the week. She
averaged 18.5 points and 12 rebounds in the two games, while shooting 50
percent with seven assists and five blocks and recording her sixth and seventh
double-doubles of the season. Aleksandravicius started the week with an
18-point, 12-rebound effort in a big win over Appalachian State, which shared last
season’s regular season title with the ‘Cats. She hit 7-of-11 shots and added
four free throws.
The
senior capped off the week with a strong effort on the road, netting a
game-high tying 19 points and pulling in another 12 rebounds in Davidson’s
third straight win over College of Charleston. She dished out a season-best
four assists and swatted away three shots. With her 37 combined points, the
forward is now just 16 points away from setting Davidson’s all-time points
mark, which would surpass Hall of Famer Jennifer O’Brien’s 1,510 career points.

top performers last week were College of Charleston’s Jillian Brown, Elon’s
Kelsey Evans, Georgia Southern’s MiMi DuBose, Samford’s Jazmine Martin,
Chattanooga’s Ashlen Dewart, and Western Carolina’s Shauna Terry.
