SPARTANBURG,
S.C.
– Members of the Southern Conference media selected Appalachian State as the
preseason favorite to win the SoCon women’s basketball regular season title in 2012-13.
Appalachian State received
12 of 22 first-place votes and 226 total points. The coaches’ preseason
favorite, Davidson, received eight first-place votes and 216 total points to
finish second in the poll. The Wildcats shared the regular-season title with
the Mountaineers last season.
Chattanooga was picked
third, tallying two first-place votes and 210 total points. The 2012 SoCon
Tournament champion Samford Bulldogs were picked fourth with 178 points.
Elon (146) was selected to
finish fifth in the league, followed by Furman (128). Western Carolina (108)
came in seventh, while College of Charleston (78) was picked eighth and Georgia
Southern (62) ninth. Wofford (58) and UNCG (42) round out the poll.
The Southern Conference
women’s basketball season begins Friday, Nov. 9, and the 2013 Southern
Conference Tournament will be held March 8-11 in Asheville, N.C.
