2011 Southern Conference Hall of Fame Inductee

Bio

Few student-athletes have received Southern Conference championship plaques and trophies as often as Shannon Wommack. The cross country and track standout for the Lady Mocs earned 20 titles during her time at Chattanooga.

Wommack gave the conference a preview of her abilities when she was named Freshman of the Year for the 2001 cross country season. She went on to establish the SoCon Championship records for the mile run in indoor track and the 1,500-meter run in outdoor track. During her career, she earned five All-America honors in both cross country and track running events.

On nine different occasions, she was voted Outstanding Performer in cross country, indoor or outdoor track. In 2005, UTC honored her with the Scrappy Moore Award for excellence in athletics, academics and community service. A year later, the SoCon recognized her as its Female Athlete of the Year.

Wommack was not only a great athlete, but a great student as well. She was twice voted to the national Academic All-America team. She was named to the SoCon Women's 25th Anniversary team in 2007.
