Bio
Valorie Whiteside is the all-time leading scorer in the history of women's basketball in the Southern Conference. She finished her four-year career at Appalachian State with the staggering total of 2,944 points. More than 20 years later, no one has come within 500 points of that mark.
She led the SoCon in scoring three times, averaging more than 25 points per game for her career. She had individual high games of 48 points and 26 rebounds and was a three-time All-Southern Conference selection. In addition to her scoring ability, Whiteside pulled down 1,369 rebounds, second most in league history.
She led the Mountaineers to consecutive SoCon championships in 1987 and 1988 and was the MVP of the tournament in both those years.
A three-time All-American, Whiteside graduated with a degree in communications before embarking on a professional playing career in Europe. She had her No. 33 uniform retired by Appalachian State in February of 1988.
