Introducing Charleston's Museum Mile on Meeting Street

Charleston's Museum Mile initiative will kick off March 1, 2008.  The Mile offers visitors the most comprehensive array of historical and cultural attractions in downtown Charleston. It is situated along Meeting Street and runs from the Charleston Visitor Center to the Nathaniel Russell House.  Charleston's Museum Mile initiative will help locals and visitors understand how easy it is to navigate this cultural corridor.  

 

Along the Mile visitors can discover six museums, five nationally important historic houses, four scenic parks, a Revolutionary War powder magazine, ten historic houses of worship and five historic public buildings including the Market and City Hall.

Clothes to Dye For: Color Explosion at the Charleston Museum

Exhibit Curator-led Tours ? Special tour available on Thursday, March 6th.

“A tour you'll be dyeing to take!”

Learn about four centuries of garments worn by Charlestonians and dyeing processes used to achieve these rich shades and hues. These curator-led tours of Clothes to Dye For are available the first Thursday of the month throughout the exhibit run and are free with general admission (free for Museum members; $10/adults, $5/children, under 3 free). Advance reservations are not required.

Art in Charleston: First Fridays

Friday, March 7th

Participating Galleries, Boutiques and Bodegas on Gallery Row, Historic Broad Street will feature demonstrations, entertainment, food and wine tastings from 5 to 7 PM.

The Shag, South Carolina’s state dance, is coming to Kiawah to kick off the Spring! This event, brought to Kiawah by Lowcountry shag clubs, including the Charleston Shag Club, is for first time shaggers, experienced shaggers, and music and dance fanatics alike. Popular band and DJ music will get you on your feet. For those who are new to Shag, instructors will be on hand all weekend.
