Cougars Slug Five Home Runs, Take Pair From Buccaneers

Mt. Pleasant, S.C.- Jacquie Rothey went 7-for-7 with two home runs to lead the College of Charleston softball team to two wins over Charleston Southern at Patriots Point Field. The Cougars took the first game 16-0 and the second game 10-0 to improve to 33-15 overall while the Buccaneers fall to 12-27.

Rothey hit two of the teams five home runs, drove in six runs, scored seven runs and went deep in each game against the Buccaneers. Brittany Pohlen hit the first Cougar home run of the day with a three run shot in the first inning of the first game. Charleston scored six runs in the first inning and nine runs in the second inning to break the first game open. Amanda Cone went 3-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored in game one.

Leshe Russell hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the second inning to open up the second game. Following a Brooke Flowers triple, Rothey homered into the wind in right field for her seventh home run of the season. Cone added a three run home run of her own in the top of the fourth to shorten the game based on the eight run rule.

Rachael Stern earned a pair of wins pitching eight innings giving up only three hits to improve to 17-7 on the season. Charleston head coach Chandelle Schulte recorded her 100th win of her CofC coaching career improving to 219-87 overall and 100-56 as mentor of the Cougars. Cone ties her own program record for most home runs in a season with 13 and sets a new school record for RBI in a season with 57 so far this season.

The Cougars travel to Georgia Southern for a three game weekend series on Saturday and Sunday. Charleston Southern travels to Furman on April 15 for a double-header starting at 3:00.



UTC Softball at UAB Postponed

Tuesday's scheduled softball doubleheader between the Chattanooga Lady Mocs and the UAB Blazers has been postponed due to rain in the Birmingham area. A makeup date will be announced later.


UNCG Softball Doubleheader Versus UNC Postponed Until Thursday

Greensboro, NC - Due to poor weather conditions, the UNC Greensboro softball doubleheader versus North Carolina originally scheduled for Wednesday, April 14, has been postponed until Thursday, April 15. First pitch for the doubleheader is scheduled for 2:30 pm.
