Cougar Classic Set to Begin on Friday

Charleston, S.C. - The 2004 Cougar Classic softball tournament at Patriots Point field is set to begin on Friday at 11:00. The Cougars take on UAB at 5:00 and Savannah State at 7:00 in the first day of the three-day tournament.

East Carolina, Bowling Green, UAB and Savannah State will join the Cougars in the tournament. The teams will play a round-robin for most of the first two days with seeded bracket play set to begin Saturday at 7:00 and continue on Sunday with three games. The championship game will be held on Sunday at 1:00.

The Cougars are 12-7 on the season following their six games in the Kipa Aloha Malhini Tournament in Honolulu, Hawaii. Amanda Cone has been named Southern Conference Player of the Week twice so far this season. Cone leads the team with 19 RBI and four home runs. Rachel Stern and Natalie Smith have also earned SoCon honors with each being named Pitcher of the Week. Smith pitched the second perfect game in program history on February 29th against North Carolina A&T.

Tickets for the tournament can be purchased at the gate at Patriots Point on game day.
