ASU Softball Sweeps Twinbill at N.C. A&T, 6-4 and 8-4 Print Greensboro, N.C. - Appalachian State University's softball squad used a pair of two unearned runs in the eighth inning to win Game One, 6-4 and Jennifer Hurley carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning of Game Two in an 8-4 win that gave Appalachian a doubleheader sweep. The victories push Mountaineer head coach Willie Rucker past an elite milestone of 400 career wins as her career mark now stands at 401-370.In the nightcap, the Mountaineers scored three runs in the top of the third without a hit, as two Lady Aggie errors aided their cause. The Apps added three more runs in a one-hit sixth inning for a 6-0 lead. Appalachian starting pitcher, Jennifer Hurley carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning before allowing, broke through with a four-run sixth. N.C. A&T's Lorraine Geiger hit a two-run single for the big blow, which was followed by RBI singles from and Christina Brock and Sibol Loftin. Appalachian put the game out of reach in the seventh, getting a sacrifice fly from Caitlin Ryan and an RBI single from Dawn Malone. Hurley earned credit for the victory, as she allowed three earned runs on five hits with nine strikeouts and three walks. Marie Watson earned the save, pitching a scoreless seventh. Adia Dial took the loss, allowing three runs (none earned), one hit and two walks in four innings pitched. In the first game, Appalachian trailed by two runs, at 4-2, but tied the game with two out in the seventh. Diana Cook and Caitlin Ryan each hit run scoring singles off losing pitcher Latronda Anderson. In the eighth, a throwing error led to two unearned runs, as Christa Hicks scored and Sara Gough hit an RBI single. Jordan Arnold registered the complete-game victory, as she pitched all eight innings. Arnold allowed five hits, three earned runs and eight strikeouts. Anderson was charged with four earned runs on seven hits for the loss. N.C. A&T's Lorraine Geiger went 2-for-3, including a solo home run and two RBIs. Adia Dial also went 2-for-3 and scored a run. Cook went 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Amber Handy scored twice to lead the Mountaineers. Appalachian returns to action this Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the First Pitch Classic, at Charlotte.
