Tuesday's Softball Results

GEORGIA TECH SWEEPS LADY PALADINS 8-0, 2-0

ATLANTA, Georgia -- Jessica Sallinger pitched seven innings of one-hit
ball to lead Georgia Tech to a 2-0 victory over Furman and sweep of a
softball doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at Glenn Field in Atlanta, Ga.

In game one, Tara Knudson went 3-for-3 with a two-run home run to lead
Georgia Tech (5-1) to an 8-0 win. Erin Voeltz allowed only one hit in five
innings of work to earn her second victory of the season.

Rachel Henley suffered the loss for Furman allowing three earned runs in
four innings. Henley recorded five strike outs in the loss.

In game two, Sallinger and Furman's Kristy Goodrich staged a pitcher's
duel. With the game scoreless in the bottom of the fifth inning, Goodrich
hit centerfielder Sara Wissmann to lead off the inning. Two batters later
Georgia Tech's Soraya Reddick belted an opposite field two-run homer for
the game's only runs.

Sallinger struck out ten Lady Paladins to improve to 3-0 on the season.
Goodrich (1-2) surrendered two runs on five hits in six innings. Joni
Lockridge recorded the only base hit for Furman.

The Lady Paladins, 1-6, return to action on February 27, when they travel
to Charleston for the Charleston Southern Invitational.


Eagles Drop Season Opener to Tenth Ranked Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.. - Florida State's Casey Hunter continued her hot start to the season as she picked up her first shutout of the year and allowed just one-hit in an 8-0, six-inning win over Georgia Southern.

The Seminoles dominated Georgia Southern in game one winning 8-0. Florida State went up 3-0 in the second as Tiffany Urena loaded the bases when a Natasha Jacob two-out hit allowed three runners to score. In the top of the third, Kim Griffin registered the first Eagle hit of the game, but could not come up with a run.

The bottom of the fifth inning saw freshman Logan Free take to the mound. After walking the first two batters she faced, the Seminoles scored again, giving them the 5-0 edge after five innings, and would tack on three more runs in the sixth to give the Tribe the 8-0 win.

The Seminoles continued to dominate game two as they took the early 1-0 lead in the first inning, as a series of Eagle miscues allowed Veronica Wootsen. The Tribe's Jessica van der Linden was on her way to a no-hitter after not allowing GSU to score through three innings. In the bottom of the third, FSU added another run after Carly Brieske singled through the left side, allowing Elisa Vasquez to score.

The Eagles could not get on the board, as van der Linden completed the no-hitter, getting help from Beth Wade and Kim Hoffer as they each scored in the final innings of the game, giving the Seminoles the 4-0 win.

Georgia Southern hosts the Georgia Southern Invitational February 20-22 at Eagle Field.
