Cougar Softball's Record Setting Day Print CHARLESTON, SC- The College of Charleston softball team got the 2004 season off to a record start. The team set a NCAA Division I record and placed in the top 10 in six other offensive record categories on Wednesday. The Cougars downed Savannah State 33-0 in game one and scored 29 runs in the second inning en route to a 42-0 win in game two. The Cougars set a NCAA record for Divisions I, II, and III with 13 doubles in the second game against the Tigers. The 42 runs the Cougars scored in the second game is the third most in NCAA Division I history. The 33 runs in the first game is 10th all-time. The 42 run margin of victory against the Tigers in game two is the second widest margin of victory is second all-time. The first game margin was not far behind at 33 runs which ranks eighth. Amanda Cone and Jacquie Rothey also entered the record book as individuals scoring six runs in the second game which ties for fourth place all-time. The team next travels to Rock Hill, SC to take on Gardner Webb on Sunday at 10:00 AM. The game was originally slated for Patriots Point but was moved due to field improvements at the complex.
