College of Charleston Names Softball Assistant Print Charleston, S.C. -- Martha McCall, a former standout first baseman for the Cougars, has been named assistant softball coach at the College of Charleston, head coach Chandelle Schulte announced on Sept. 3. McCall, a Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. native, played three seasons for the Cougars before sitting out last spring with a wrist injury. She played in 47 games as a junior in 2002 and finished fourth on the team with 131 at bats, and fifth with a .331 on base average. She hit .309 with nine doubles and 24 RBI as a sophomore. As a freshman she led the team with a .990 fielding average committing only one error in 47 games. McCall, who was a four-time all-conference performer at Palm Beach Gardens High School, earned a degree in Communications from CofC in 2003. Charleston, the 2003 Southern Conference regular season champions, finished with a 45-11 overall record and 16-4 league mark last spring.
