Creeger, McChain Named SoCon Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week Print SPARTANBURG, SC -- The Southern Conference today named its Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week for April 28. Melissa Creeger from College of Charleston was named the Player of the Week while Julia McChain from East Tennessee State earned the Pitcher of the Week award.A senior from Mission Viejo, CA, Creeger went five-for-ten this week with four RBIs in a week in which the Cougars posted a 3-1 record. Her double against Coastal Carolina on April 23 set up a Cougar rally in the bottom of the seventh inning that sealed the victory for Charleston. Creeger's single in the third inning of the first game of a doubleheader against conference rival Chattanooga on April 27 drove in the tying run. She had two hits in the second game against the Mocs to pace the Cougars. Creeger has a .303 batting average for the season with a .451 slugging percentage and a .393 on-base percentage. The Cougars currently stand atop the conference rankings with a 14-3 conference record and a 40-8 overall record.McChain, a freshman from Dale City, VA, led the Bucs to a 2-0 record over the weekend in which East Tennessee State swept conference opponent Furman. She posted a 1.80 ERA in two games allowing three earned runs in 11.2 innings pitched. McChain struck out five while walking three. East Tennessee State took all three games of the series from Furman, upping their season record to 7-10 in conference and 21-24 overall.
