UNC WILMINGTON 5-1, CAMPBELL 1-2
(April 24)

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell and UNC Wilmington split a non-conference series Wednesday night at the Eakes Softball Complex as the Seahawks captured game one of the double header, 5-1, and Campbell won game two, 2-1, fighting off a seventh inning rally by UNCW.

The Seahawks improve to 19-31 overall, while the Fighting Camels go to 23-29 on the season.

In game one, UNCW struck first as a freshman shortstop Kelli Adcox singled to center field to score senior first basemanChrissy Freaney. A sharp defensive play by senior catcher Shannon O'Bryan ended the inning as she picked off freshman third baseman Ashley Chuun.

Costly errors in the fifth inning by Campbell allowed UNCW to plate another run. With the bases loaded senior leftfielder Mary Susan Hilliard's deep sacrifice fly to left field brought home sophomore centerfielder Summer Criscoe who had reached third base on two errors and a pased ball.

Campbell struggled much of the night at the plate, going without a hit until a fifth inning single through the left gap by freshman Erica Willis. A double by sophomore Joy-Lee Richardson drove in Willis from second to make the score 2-1 UNCW.

The Seahawks added three runs in the seventh as sophomore Christina Elmore, freshman second baseman Hayley House and Hilliard all scored to give the final 5-1 score.

Sophomore Holly Harris took the loss for Campbell going seven innings giving up five runs on eight hits and striking out three to dip to 6-11 on the season.

Sophomore Jamie Gostyla picked up the win allowing only two hits in seven innings, striking out three as well to improve to 8-15.

In the nightcap, a sacrifice fly by sophomore Brooke Bennett put the Camels up 1-0 in the second inning as she was able to bring home Richardson from third.

UNCW knotted the score at one apeice when freshman catcher Meghan Mulcahy laid down a sacrifice bunt to score House.

O'Bryan drew a walk with one out to place the go ahead run on first. With junior Jessica Paul pinch running for O'Bryan, Harris singled up the middle to advance Paul to second. A single through the left gap by junior Meredith Moody pushed Paul across the plate for the game-winning run.

Freshman Lexi Myers earned her 12th win, striking out four Seahawks and allowing only one run on six hits. Myers retired nine straight batters between the third and fifth innings and six of the final eight UNCW hitters.

Sophomore Amanda Wilson was the hard-luck loser going six innings, striking out two and allowing two runs on six hits to drop to 10-15. Wilson also pitched a solid middle portion of the game retiring eight consecutive Camel batters.

UNCW hosts Southern Conference rival UNC Greensboro Saturday in a twinbill at 2 p.m. and concludes the series Sunday for Senior Day starting at 2 p.m.

GEORGIA 8-8, GEORGIA SOUTHERN 0-0
(April 23)

ATHENS, Ga.-Michelle Green and the Georgia softball team dominated Georgia Southern 8-0 and 8-0 in Wednesday's doubleheader at the Women's Athletic Complex.

Green (34-6) allowed only two Georgia Southern (23-23, 7-7 SoCon) hits over eight innings, including four no-hit innings in the second game of the doubleheader. Laurie Davidson pitched one no-hit inning for the Bulldogs to finish off the no-hitter in the second game.

In game one, Georgia (49-9, 18-5 SEC) broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the third inning when a groundout by Michelle Green drove in Katie Lewis.

The Bulldogs added two more runs in the fourth extending their lead to 3-0. Courtney Knight started off the inning with a double and Ashley Godfrey sent her home with a triple. Godfrey scored on a groundout by Jade Jarvis.

A lead off home run by Kim Wendland, a triple by Godfrey, and an RBI single by Jarvis increased the Bulldog lead to 6-0 in the bottom of the fifth.

The Bulldogs pushed two more runs across the plate to end the game in the sixth inning.

In the second game, the Bulldogs wasted no time in taking a 6-0 lead in the first inning. Twelve batters went to the plate for the Bulldogs as four reached on hits and four were hit by pitches.

Two more Bulldogs crossed the plate in the bottom of the fifth to end the game at 8-0.

Meghan Correia and Shanita Black contributed the only two hits for the Eagles on the day. Green and Jarvis collected three hits for the Bulldogs.

A.J. Street (4-9) went four innings allowing five hits and three earned runs in the first game loss. Janice Savage (9-8) took the loss in game two for the Eagles giving up six earned runs on nine hits through five innings.

The Eagles will host conference rival Appalachian State in a doubleheader Saturday at 1:00 pm at Eagle Field.

Cougar Softball Splits with Coastal Carolina
(April 23)

Mt. Pleasant, SC Jessica Schwartzkopf went two-for-three with two RBI to lead the College of Charleston to a 9-4 victory in game one of the softball doubleheader against Coastal Carolina this afternoon at Patriots Point. The Chanticleers limited the Cougars to just two hits in six innings to take the 2-1 win in the nightcap.

The Chanticleers go to 31-14, while the Cougars go to 38-8. The loss snapped a 27-game home winning streak for the College of Charleston dating back to last season.

Coastal Carolina got on the board first as two runs came across in the first inning. Morgan Tolleson singled to drive in Holly Lee and Suzanne's single sent in Kelli Julg. The Cougars responded with three runs in the bottom of the first as Schwartzkopf singled in Flowers and Melissa Creeger laced a two-RBI single up the middle.

Charleston scored again in the third when Creeger reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Flowers to score. Lauren Rabun also reached on e fielder's choice with Jacquie Rothey coming home for the fifth run of the game.

The very next inning Charleston brought home three more runs as Amanda Cone's triple brought in Flowers and Keyta Lawson. Schwartzkopf triple the next at-bat to send home Cone.

The Chanticleers would score two more in the fifth when Sara Hostetler reached on a Cougar error and scored when Kimberly Josephson tripled to right field. Lee sacrificed in Josephson for the final Coastal Carolina run.

Charleston scored one more run in the bottom of the fifth when LeShe Russell pinch-hit a double to send home Katie Scott.

Rachel Stern threw the complete game to go 22-2 on the year. Christine Doyle threw 3.2 innings for the loss to go 16-7.

Coastal Carolina scored first in the second game when Tolleson scored on fielding error that put Kelly Feely on base in the fourth inning.

The Chanticleers score again in the seventh. The eventual game-winner came home after the Chanticleers loaded the bases and brought a runner home off a Cougar throwing error.

The Cougars staged a comeback in the bottom of the seventh, putting two runners in scoring position with now outs. Rabun doubled to left field to score Schwartzkopf. On the same play pinch-runner Lindsay Ellis was tagged out at the plate and Rabun was taken out at third after trying to stretch the hit into a triple. With two away, Scott singled to second base to put another threat on base. The threat ended when Russell lined out to third to end the game.

Natalie Smith went the distance, giving up six hits and striking out six, to go 9-4 on the year. Tolleson garnered the win to improve to 8-4 on the year.

The Cougars host conference foe Chattanooga this weekend in a conference series with a doubleheader Saturday at 1:00 pm and a dingle game Sunday at 1:00 pm.
