Rothey, Reed and Stern Named SoCon Softball Players and Pitcher of the Week

SPARTANBURG, SC -- The Southern Conference today named its Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week for April 14. Chattanooga catcher Jennifer Reed and College of Charleston shortstop Jacquie Rothey were named the Co-Players of the Week while College of Charleston sophomore Rachel Stern has earned the Pitcher of the Week award.

Rothey, a junior from Clearwater, FL, went 9-for-10 from the plate batting .900 in a College of Charleston sweep of East Tennessee State. In the three games against the Bucs, Rothey hit four doubles with four RBIs. She leads the Southern Conference with a .425 batting average and ranks in the top five in the conference in four batting categories.

A freshman from Chattanooga, TN, Reed led the Mocs for the week with a .800 batting average and ten runs batted in. In a weekend in which Chattanooga swept conference opponent UNC Wilmington, Reed blasted four home runs while scoring six. She then went 8-for-10 in the three-game series with the Seahawks. For the season, Reed is batting .342 and has started all 48 games for the Mocs.

Stern, a sophomore from Virginia Beach, VA, pitched a 14 innings for two complete games this weekend in wins over conference opponent East Tennessee State. In the two games, Stern carried a 0.00 ERA. On the season, Stern sports a 0.86 ERA in 137.2 innings. She carries a 19-1 record and has won her last 14 straight.
