Johnson, Arnold Named SoCon Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week Print SPARTANBURG, SC -- The Southern Conference today named its Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week for March 31. Furman first baseman Meagen Johnson has earned the Player of the Week award while Appalachian State junior Jordan Arnold has been named the Pitcher of the Week.A senior from Georgetown, SC, Johnson doubled in her final at-bat versus Charleston Southern on March 27 to begin a school-record streak of eight consecutive at-bats with a hit. Johnson went 4-for-4 in the first game against the College of Charleston on March 29 and went 3-for-3 in the second game. For the season, Johnson currently sports a .453 batting average.Arnold, a junior from Black Mountain, NC, picked up a win and a save against conference opponent Chattanooga. She pitched an 11 inning complete game for the Mountaineers picking up the 2-1 win in game one of the series on March 29. In that game, she scattered eight hits, while allowing only one run. Arnold also struck out five while only walking two. In game three of the series on March 30, Arnold pitched 2.2 innings, allowing only one hit and one walk, while striking out one in picking up the save in a 2-0 win. This was Arnold's first save of the year. She currently boasts a team low 1.87 ERA in 71 innings of work.
