Cone, Wilson Named SoCon Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week

SPARTANBURG, SC -- The Southern Conference today named its softball Player and Pitcher of the Week for March 17. College of Charleston outfielder Amanda Cone has earned the Player of the Week award while UNC Wilmington sophomore Amanda Wilson has been named the Pitcher of the Week.

A junior from Florence, SC, Cone led the Spartans to a 3-0 record at the rain-shortened Ringor Winthrop Softball Tournament on March 13-14. She was 6-of-9 (.667) at the plate, leading the Cougar offense in all three games. In Charleston's 17-0 win over North Carolina A&T on March 14, Cone went 3-for-3 at the plate, tallying five RBI while belting two home runs. Cone currently leads the Cougars with 7 home runs on the season.

Wilson, a sophomore from King, NC, pitched seven innings giving up one run for in a 3-1 UNC Wilmington win over Cleveland State at the Ringor Winthrop Softball Tournament. She recorded five strike outs and did not give up a walk for an ERA of 1.00. This was Wilson's eighth complete game of the season in picking up her seventh victory. Wilson leads the Seahawk pitching staff with a 7-7 record in 19 appearances, with an ERA of 2.79.
