UTC's Reed Receives NFCA Award

Chattanooga softball coach Frank Reed, who picked up his 500th career
coaching victory last season, received an Easton Victory Club Award
recently during a special lunching at the National Fastpitch Coaches
Association National Convention in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Reed led the Lady Mocs to a 44-15 record in 2002 and their third
consecutive berth in the NCAA Regionals. UTC advanced farther than it ever
had in the postseason with a 2-2 record, which included a pair of wins over
region top seed and #12-ranked Florida Atlantic.

Reed spent the previous 10 seasons as head coach at Chattanooga State
Technical Community College where he compiled a sparking 476-87 record.
That included an astonishing 62-3 mark and No. 2 national ranking in 2001.
CSTCC made seven consecutive national tournament appearances during his
tenure.

With Reed at the helm, the Lady Mocs posted their fifth consecutive 40-win
season and were ranked No. 4 nationally in field average, plus they were
nationally ranked in hitting, winning percentage and scoring. UTC finished
ranked #27 in the nation in the final NFCA Division I poll.

The Lady Mocs are less than two months away from starting the 2003 season.
UTC's first test will be Feb. 7-9 at a tournament hosted by Auburn University.
