Furman's Hill, UNC Greensboro's Lachekar Earn Awards

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman midfielder Landon Hill and UNC Greensboro defender Sami Lachekar have been named Southern Conference men’s soccer offensive and defensive players of the week for matches from Aug. 26-Sept. 1.

Hill (Lewis Center, OH / Olentangy Berlin HS) helped the nationally-ranked Paladins to a 1-0-1 mark last week, including a 1-1 draw with No. 8 Duke on Sunday. In the home opener against North Greenville, Hill notched his first goal of the season on one shot in an easy 6-2 victory. In the top 25 matchup against the Blue Devils, Hill found the net on a header off the underside of the crossbar, giving Furman an early 1-0 lead. The Paladins moved up to No. 9 in this week’s Top Drawer Soccer national poll.

Lachekar (Metz, France / Université de Lorraine) was a key performer in the nationally-ranked Spartans’ 1-0-1 effort on the road in the Sunshine State. The senior defender played all 180 minutes in a 2-1 win over UCF and a 1-1 draw at South Florida. He scored his second career goal in the match at South Florida and was part of a defensive effort over the final 15 minutes that kept the score level. Against UCF, he helped the Spartans’ defense hold the Knights to a single goal – on a penalty kick – in a 2-1 victory. UNCG moved up to No. 22 in this week’s Top Drawer Soccer national poll.

Furman (2-0-2) is back in action on Thursday, hosting Davidson at 6:00 pm. UNC Greensboro (3-0-1) plays at home on Saturday (Sept. 6), hosting No. 25 Dayton at 7:00 pm.

Also nominated for Offensive Player of the Week: Rowen Choi (VMI), Nathan Simes (Wofford), and Arnaud Tattevin (UNCG)
