SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNC Greensboro forward Enzo Dovlo and Furman goalkeeper Ivan Horvat have been named Southern Conference men’s soccer offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for matches from August 19-25.
Dovlo (Paris, France / Sainte Anne) was sensational in two wins for the No. 23 Spartans (2-0-0) last week, highlighted by his first career hat trick. The junior forward opened the season with two goals and an assist in a 6-2 win over Radford on Thursday, putting four shots on goal in 63 minutes played. Dovlo heated up quickly in a 3-2 victory over VCU on Sunday, finding the back of the net three times on five shots. He scored twice in the first 10 minutes to take UNCG out to an early lead and, after the Rams cut the lead to 2-1 early in the second half, Dovlo connected again for a 3-1 lead at the 69:34 mark. His five goals through two contests equal his total for the entire 2024 season.
Horvat (Bratislava, Croatia / Darlington School) anchored a stout defensive effort for the No. 20 Paladins (1-0-1) in two neutral site matches in Durham, N.C. The redshirt freshman goalkeeper stopped the only shot he faced in the opener vs. UC San Diego, logging 90 minutes and his first career clean sheet. He played 57 minutes before leaving with an injury vs. No. 9 San Diego, part of a defensive unit that didn’t allow a shot on goal in an impressive scoreless draw.
UNC Greensboro plays at South Florida on Thursday and stays in the Sunshine State to tackle UCF on Sunday. Furman hosts North Greenville in its home opener Thursday, before hosting No. 15 Duke in another top 25 showdown on Sunday.
