St. John's pushed across lone runs in the third and fourth innings, and then thwarted a 2-out comeback attempt by Mercer in the seventh, to slip by the Bears, 4-3, in the opening game for both teams at the Jacksonville-hosted Spring Break Challenge on Thursday afternoon.
