UNCG's Asidanya named SoCon Women's Basketball player of the week

Asidanya averaged 20.5 points and 3.5 rebounds across two of the Spartans' three contests during the opening week of the season

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG’s Makiyah Asidanya has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played November 3–10. Asidanya averaged 20.5 points and 3.5 rebounds across two of the Spartans’ three contests during the opening week of the season. The award is selected by the league office. 

On Wednesday, Nov. 5, the junior guard scored 19 points on six field goals and went a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line against San Francisco. 

In a close matchup with Auburn on Nov. 10, the Pittsburg, California, native posted a career-best 22 points, shooting 6-for-12 from the field, 5-for-8 from three-point range, and 5-for-6 from the free-throw line. She also added five rebounds and two steals. 

Asidanya chipped in six points on 2-for-3 shooting from beyond the arc during UNCG’s season opener at Stanford. 

One of two Spartans named to the Preseason All-SoCon team, Asidanya currently leads UNCG in field-goal percentage, field goals made, three-pointers made, free-throw percentage, free throws made, total points, and points per game. 

UNCG returns to action in Clinton, South Carolina, on Nov. 14, to face Presbyterian. Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m. with streaming available on ESPN+.
