SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU’s Fernanda Carvajal has been named the Southern Conference women’s tennis player of the week for all matches played from April 2-8, the conference announced on Tuesday. The award is selected by the league office.
Carvajal, who received the honor Jan. 16 and Feb. 27, went 4-0 this week, picking up two singles wins at the No. 2 position, and two doubles wins at the No. 1 position against No. 46 Charlotte and Samford.
On April 6 against Charlotte, she paired with Daniela Rivera for the No. 1 doubles matchup against the 68
th-ranked tandem of Lucia Quiterio and Ares Teixido Garcia, which Carvajal and Rivera won 6-4. At No. 2 singles, the Queretaro, Mexico, product defeated Lucie Petruzelova in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.
Against Samford on April 7, the senior paired with Rivera again and the pair defeated Alexis Lopez and Noelle Mauro, 6-2. In singles, Carvajal won at the No. 2 position, defeating Emily Surcey in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4

ETSU (13-7, 6-0 SoCon) hosts Furman (10-11, 6-0 SoCon) on Saturday in a match that will determine the No. 1 seed for the SoCon tournament next week.
