SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford’s Titus Moore and Carl Henry have been named the Southern Conference men’s outdoor track and field athletes of the week, respectively, while Furman’s Abigail Robertson and Samford’s Ellison Chadwick earned the respective awards on the women’s side, the conference office announced Wednesday.
Selections were made by panels of the league’s track and field coaches and included all outdoor competition to date.
Samford’s Moore ran at the Bulldogs Alumni Relays on Saturday, finishing second in the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 13.93. The Macon, Georgia, product leads the conference in the event and is tied for 16
th on the NCAA Division I East Outdoor Qualifying List and 26
th on the combined NCAA Division I Outdoor Qualifying List. The graduate student’s posted time has qualified for the NCAA regionals in all prior years.
Samford’s Henry also competed at the Bulldog Alumni Relays in Starkville, Mississippi, last week, taking fifth in the shot put on Saturday. The Gadsden, Alabama, native had a throw of 15.92 meters, which leads the conference. The week before, Henry competed in the Montevallo Falcon Classic where he placed second in shot put with a throw of 15.15 meters and third in the discus with a throw of 44.51 meters. The freshman is ranked fifth in the conference in discus.
Competing at the Bob Davidson team challenge in High Point, North Carolina, Furman’s Robertson won the 1,500-meter run, posting a time of 4:26.10 to lead the Paladins to a sweep of the top six finishers in the event. The Marietta, Georgia, native’s time leads the SoCon and ranks 19
th in the East Region.
Samford’s Chadwick competed at the Bulldog Alumni Relays in Starkville, Mississippi, on Thursday, opening her outdoor field career with a fifth place finish in the long jump. The Stone Mountain, Georgia, product’s leap of 5.90 meters places her in the conference lead as a freshman.
