SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford third baseman Dixon Black and Mercer left-hander Graham Yntema have been named the Southern Conference baseball player and pitcher of the week, respectively, for all competition from March 4-10. The awards are selected by the league office.
 
Wofford’s Black hit .600 (9-of-15) on the week with five of his hits going for extra bases, as Wofford swept Lafayette over the weekend. The Scranton, Pennsylvania, native, recorded two doubles, two triples, a home run and 14 RBIs in three games last week. He also scored six runs and drew a pair of walks, while posting a 1.200 slugging percentage and a .611 on-base percentage. Black notched multiple hits in all three games with a series-high four hits in Sunday's finale, matching his career high. He recorded a career-best five RBIs in the series opener on Friday, then followed with a six-RBI game on Sunday afternoon.  

Mercer’s Yntema earned the win in the Bears’ 4-1 victory at Oklahoma State last Saturday (March 9), after getting the start and striking out four, while allowing just three hits in five innings of work on the mound. The native of Lilburn, Georgia, faced four or fewer batters in in four of the five innings he pitched and allowed just one baserunner to reach scoring position.    

Wofford (12-2), which has won six straight, is scheduled to visit College of Charleston for a three-game set over the weekend. Mercer (10-6) is slated to host Georgia Tech in a midweek contest on Tuesday (March 12), before hosting Siena in a three-game series over the weekend.
