SPARTANBURG, S.C. – VMI’s Liam McBride and VMI’s Isaiah Blount have been named the Southern Conference men’s indoor track and field athletes of the week, respectively, while Samford’s Amiel Dabney and Wofford’s Olivia Bagg claimed women’s track and field athlete of the week honors, respectively, the conference office announced Wednesday.
 
Selections were made by panels of the league’s track and field coaches and included all competition from Jan. 31-Feb. 6.
 
McBride  compete at the Doc Hale Invitational at Virginia Tech, where he reset his school record in the 60m hurdles with a time of 7.97. The Junior is now ranked third in the conference in the event.
 
Competing at the VMI Winter Relays in Lexington, Virginia, on Saturday, Blount won the Heptathlon with a personal best score of 4988. The junior from Milford, Virginia, set new personal record in the pole vault, 60m dash, and long jump on his way to a second-place rank in the conference.

Samford’s Dabney competed in the South Alabama Invitational in Birmingham, Alabama, on Sunday. The junior from Conyers, Georgia, won the 60mH with a time of 8.62 and 5^th in the 60m dash clocking in at 7.67. Dabney currently ranks first in the conference in the 60mH and third in the 60m dash.
 
Wofford’s Bagg competed at the VMI Winter Relays in Lexington, Virginia, on Friday winning the pentathlon with a score of 3427. The Bridgwater, England, product won the 60mH portion of the pentathlon and currently leads the SoCon in the event.
 
The weekly awards are the first career indoor honors for all four weekly winners.
