SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer’s Summah Evans has been named Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played Jan. 30- Feb. 5, after scoring a career-high 35 points in Mercer’s lone contest this week. The award is selected by the league office.

Evans, who won the award on Jan. 9, helped lead Mercer offensively on Saturday during the Bears’ 87-59 victory over Samford. The senior forward scored 35 points, shooting 70 percent from the field, grabbed six rebounds, and dished out two assists in the contest. Evans went 5-for-8 from behind the arc and contributed a steal and two blocked shots. The Cairns, Australia, product’s performance marked a season-high for points in a game by any SoCon player this season.

Mercer (9-14, 3-4 SoCon) hosts ETSU on Thursday, Feb. 8, before welcoming Chattanooga on Saturday, Feb. 10.
