SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU’s Fernanda Carvajal has been named the Southern Conference women’s tennis player of the week for all matches played from Feb. 20-26, the conference announced on Tuesday. The award is selected by the league office.
Rivera went 4-0 this week, picking up two singles wins at the No. 2 position and two doubles wins at the No. 1 position against App State and Western Carolina.
In her match against App State’s Taya Powell on Tuesday, Carvajal won in three sets, 6-7, 6-0, 10-7. The senior paired with Daniela Rivera for doubles to win, 6-3, against Powell and Maggie Pate. The Bucs won 6-1 to extend their winning streak to three matches.
On Sunday, Carvajal won in straight sets beating Western Carolina’s Jade Grown 6-3, 7-5. The Queretaro, Mexico, native paired with Rivera again for doubles as the pair won 6-4 to lead ETSU in a 7-0 sweep, the Bucs’ fourth consecutive win.
ETSU (5-4) travels to Radford on Friday, before visiting No. 10 N.C. State on Sunday.
