ETSU’s Rivera named SoCon Women’s Tennis Player of the Week.

Junior went a combined 4-0 in singles and doubles this week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU’s Daniela Rivera has been named the Southern Conference women’s tennis player of the week for all matches played from Feb. 13-19, the conference announced on Tuesday.  The award is selected by the league office.

Rivera went 4-0 this week, picking up two singles wins at the No. 3 position and two doubles wins at the No. 1 position against UNCG and Lipscomb.

In her match against UNCG’s Olivia Gallagher on Thursday, Rivera won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2. The junior paired with Fernanda Carvajal for doubles to win 6-2 against Arina Babkova and Alexandra Dodashev. The Bucs won 7-0 in their first conference match this season.

On Saturday against previously unbeaten Lipscomb, Rivera put ETSU on the verge of clinching the match after beating Rut Galindo 6-0, 6-7, 6-3. The Maturin, Venezuela, native paired with Carvajal earlier in the day for doubles, as the pair won 6-1 against Lipscomb’s Mariya Dolzhenko and Sofiia Paladi.

ETSU (3-4) hosts App State on Tuesday, Feb. 20, before welcoming Western Carolina on Sunday.
